چکیده

recently determined LVl~ to be 111918 J mol-I at temperatures below 1000 K, and pointed out that their experimental data were free from various 'intercept effects' which had dogged earlier investigations. Similarly, for T<1000K, they deduced '\~s=51.44Jmol-IK-I. There seem to be no data on the variation of LVl~ or ,\~s as a function of x. However, Lobo and Geigerl found that LVll: and ,\S~S do in fact vary with x. Furthermore, since the data of Ref. 11 were determined at relatively low temperatures, the relationships the authors deduced should be the most reliable for the present purposes. From Refs. 10 and 11,

The effect of driving force in Gibbs energy on the fraction of martensite

The background to this bachelor thesis is an on-going project within the VINN Excellence Center Hero-m. The task in this thesis is to perform a literature survey about the martensite transformation and investigate how the resulting fraction depends on cooling below the Ms-temperature. Instead of calculating the undercooling for each of the known fractions of martensite the driving force will be...

The effect of aluminium and phosphorus on the stability of individual austenite grains in TRIP steels

We have performed in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction experiments to assess the influence of aluminium and phosphorus on the austenite stability in low-alloyed transformation-induced plasticity steels during the high-temperature bainitic holding and the subsequent martensitic transformation during cooling to temperatures between room temperature and 100 K. Although the addition of aluminium i...

Stress-Assisted Isothermal Martensitic Transformation Application to TRIP Steels

Low-temperature plastic flow in TRIP steels has been found to be controlled by stress-assisted isothermal martensitic transformation. For these conditions, the thermodynamics and kinetic theory of martensitic transformations leads directly to constitutive relations predicting the dependence of flow stress on temperature, strain, strain-rate, and stress-state, consistent with the observed behavi...

Advances in theory: Martensite by design

The depth of scientific understanding of martensitic transformations provides a strong foundation for the predictive design of materials exploiting artensitic phenomena. Recent theoretical advances supporting this capability include twoand three-dimensional applications of Landau–Ginzburg heory to martensitic nucleation, and important refinements of multiscale kinetic theory. Accurate control o...

Analysis of deformation induced martensitic transformation in stainless steels

Many studies monitoring the formation of martensite during the tensile deformation of austenite report data which are, in principle, affected by both the applied stress and the resulting plastic strain. It is not clear in these circumstances whether the transformation is stress induced (i.e. the stress provides a mechanical driving force) or whether the generation of defects during deformation ...

Transformation Plasticity and Toughening

Analysis of the dynamic evolution of multilevel structure during martensitic transformations provides kinetics-based constitutive relations for transformation plasticity. Application in numerical modeling of ductile fracture by microvoid-softening-induced shear localization, in conjunction with metallographic study of crack-tip processes, identifies transformation toughening mechanisms operatin...
